Creating Posts: Standard, Event, and Offer Types

Three Post Types

GBPCentral supports three types of Google Business Profile posts. Each type serves a different purpose and includes its own set of fields.

Standard Posts

A standard post is a general update about your business. Use it to share news, tips, photos, or anything you want your customers to know. It requires just the post content (up to 1,500 characters) and optionally an image and a call-to-action button.

Event Posts

Event posts are for promoting a specific occasion with a set timeframe. In addition to the regular post content, event posts require:

  • Event Title — A short name for the event.
  • Start Date — When the event begins.
  • End Date — When the event ends.

Event posts are displayed on your Google Business Profile with the event details prominently featured, making them stand out from standard updates.

Offer Posts

Offer posts let you promote deals, discounts, or coupons. Along with your post content, you will need to provide:

  • Promo Code — The coupon or discount code customers should use.
  • Redemption URL (optional) — A link where customers can redeem the offer online.
  • Terms and Conditions (optional) — Any restrictions or fine print that applies to the offer.

Content Guidelines

All post types share these rules:

  • Post content is limited to 1,500 characters.
  • You must select at least one Google Business Profile account to publish to.
  • Images are optional but recommended. They grab attention and improve engagement.
  • Call-to-action buttons are optional for all post types.

Choosing the Right Type

If you are not sure which type to use, start with a standard post. Use event posts when you have something with specific dates (a sale, an open house, a workshop). Use offer posts when you want to distribute a coupon code or promote a time-limited deal.
