What it is

What is a GBP management service?

A GBP management service is the ongoing work of keeping a business's Google Business Profile accurate, active and within Google's guidelines, done by a provider for a fee. The work covers the profile details, posts, photos, review replies, and the checks that keep the listing accurate. Google calls the provider a third party: an agency that manages business information on a Business Profile for a business it does not own.

A GBP management service cannot buy a better position. Google says there's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google. GBPcentral's guide sets out what GBP management covers.

Cost

How much does Google Business Profile management cost?

Google Business Profile management costs nothing in fees from Google, so the price of a service is the price of the work. GBPcentral's packages run from $549 to $2,999 or more per location per month, plus a one-time setup fee for each location.

Google says you can add or claim your business at no charge. Its third-party policies require an agency that charges a management fee to tell its customers that Business Profile is a service provided at no extra cost. The agency must say so in writing before it manages the profile, and show the fee on its invoices. GBPcentral says it here, in its Managed Services Agreement, and on every invoice.

The setup fee pays for the work before the first month: the starting measurement, the profile build-out to Google's catalogue, the citation and duplicate checks, and the review request setup. Billing is monthly, in advance, through Stripe, with no annual plan and no minimum term. If a payment fails, the service pauses for that month until the payment goes through.

How it starts

How the service starts

The service starts in five steps, and nothing on the profile changes until the order is accepted and the start date arrives.

  1. Today Choose a package Pick the package and the number of locations.
  2. Today Tell us about the business Create your account, choose your business type, give your consent, and choose how replies and posts are approved.
  3. Today Pay the first month The setup fee and the first month, paid before any work.
  4. Within 2 business days Order review You receive an acceptance with the date work starts, or a full refund.
  5. On the start date Work starts You invite GBPcentral as a manager, the starting measurement is taken, and the first monthly report follows.

Every order is reviewed before work starts, because GBPcentral serves only the business types listed below. You can cancel for a full refund until the start date. Once work has started there is no refund, and ending the service takes effect at the end of the paid month. The full terms are in the Managed Services Agreement. Full Local SEO starts with a written proposal of the work and the price, and you pay only after you accept it.

Measurement

How the work is measured

The work is measured against a starting point taken before the first change, so every report shows what moved since the work began.

The starting measurement records the profile's health score, the first map grid, the review count, the rating, and the profile views. It also records an answer-engine audit: how ready the profile is to be quoted by an AI answer engine. Each month's report sets the current figures beside it and lists the work done in the month. It also names the work planned for the next one. The same figures are in your portal between reports.

The figures in every report

  • Health score 86+25 Out of 100, from the profile's completeness, posting, reviews, photos and engagement.
  • Average map rank #3.4-8.2 The average position across the points of a map grid drawn around the business.
  • Share of Local Voice 52.0%+40.0% The share of the grid points where the business ranks in the top 3.
  • Total reviews 61+13 The total number of reviews, and how many came in during the month.
  • Profile views 2,180+940 Over the last 30 days, from Google's own performance data.

Control

You stay in control

Your Google Business Profile stays yours, and you stay in control of what changes on it. GBPcentral works on it as a manager, under Google's rules for third parties, and you can end the service at the end of any paid month.

  • You own the profile

Google's policies say all end customers must retain ownership or co-ownership of their Business Profile at all times. You invite GBPcentral as a manager under People and access, and GBPcentral never asks for your password.

  • You approve replies and posts

By default every reply and post waits in your portal until you approve it. Or you can approve the style once, and each reply and post is then published and listed in your portal.

  • You hear about every change

Every change GBPcentral makes to the profile is reported to you within 48 hours. Google updates and suggested edits are checked with you before anything is accepted.

  • You can stop any month

Ending the service takes effect at the end of the paid month. Google requires the third party to let you regain exclusive control within 7 business days of notice, and GBPcentral removes its access within 7 business days of your request, at any time.

The client portal's Approvals page: a review reply awaiting your approval with Approve and Request changes, and two items approved and published, with sample text.

Every package is run under Google's Business Profile third-party policies and its API policies. They forbid a guarantee of top placement and require approval before replying to reviews. Read Google's notice on working with a third party, which GBPcentral also sends with the welcome email.

Questions

Questions about GBP management services

About the service

What is a GBP management service?

A GBP management service is the ongoing work of keeping a Google Business Profile accurate, active and within Google's guidelines, done by a provider for the business that owns the profile, for a fee. GBP stands for Google Business Profile, the free listing that shows a business on Google Search and Maps. The work covers the profile details, posts, photos, review replies, and the checks that keep the listing accurate. Google calls the provider a third party. It means an authorized agency that manages business information on a Business Profile for a business it does not own. GBPcentral runs its service on its own platform. Every month ends with a report the business can check.

What is included in a GBP management package?

Every GBPcentral package states what it does each month in numbers. The Essentials package, at $549 per location per month, publishes Google Posts 4 a month and answers every new review within 2 business days. It also uploads photos from your material, checks the profile against Google's catalogue every month, watches for Google updates, reads the map grid, and sends a monthly report. The larger packages raise those counts. They add review requests run for you, citation fixes, spam reports, competitor benchmarks, and a named account manager.

Can a GBP management service guarantee first place on Google?

No. Google says there's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google. It says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity. Its third-party policies list a claim that guarantees top placement on Google among the false or misleading claims a third party must not make. GBPcentral does not promise a position. It does the work Google's ranking tips describe, and it reports the map grid, the reviews, and the profile views every month, so you can see what changed.

Should I use GBPcentral software or the managed service?

Use the software if someone on your team will do the work each week. GBP management software such as GBPcentral starts at $49 per month. New customers get a 14-day free trial on Starter. Use the managed service if nobody has the time and the budget allows a monthly fee for each location. Both run on the same platform. The same audit, rank tracking, and review tools sit behind them.

Pricing, orders and terms

How much does Google Business Profile management cost?

Google charges nothing for the profile itself. Google says you can add or claim your business at no charge. Its third-party policies require an agency that charges a management fee to tell customers that Business Profile is a service provided at no extra cost. So the cost is the cost of the work. GBPcentral offers 4 monthly packages from $549 to $2,999 or more per location per month, with a one-time setup fee for each location. Doing the work yourself costs only your time, and GBP management software such as GBPcentral starts at $49 per month.

Is there a contract or a minimum term?

No. Every package is monthly, with no annual plan and no minimum term. You pay for each month before its work is done, and the service continues until you end it. Ending the service takes effect at the end of the month you have paid for. Google's third-party policies require a quick and easy way to discontinue a service. They also require the third party to let the client regain exclusive control of the profile within 7 business days of notice.

Why does GBPcentral review every order before work starts?

Because GBPcentral serves only the business types listed on this page. Every order is reviewed within 2 business days. If GBPcentral can serve the business, you receive an acceptance with the date work starts. If it cannot, the order is declined and the payment is refunded in full. GBPcentral serves 25 business types in 6 groups, and a business that is not listed can ask for a quote.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, until work starts. If GBPcentral declines the order, or you cancel before the start date named in the acceptance, the payment is refunded in full. Once work has started there is no refund. Ending the service then takes effect at the end of the month you have paid for.

What happens if a monthly payment fails?

The service pauses for that month. Work is paid for before it is done, so no work is done on a month that has not been paid. When the payment goes through, the work picks up again. GBPcentral does not invoice a month's package work after it has been delivered.

Ownership and control

Who owns my Google Business Profile when GBPcentral manages it?

You do. Google's third-party policies say all end customers must retain ownership or co-ownership of their Business Profile at all times. They tell a third party to make the business owner the owner of the profile, and itself the manager. If your profile already exists, you invite GBPcentral as a manager, not as an owner, which is the order Google gives. Google says managers have mostly the same access to the profile as owners. The only exception is that they cannot add or remove users or remove the profile.

How do I see who manages my Google Business Profile?

Go to your Business Profile, select More, then Business Profile settings, then People and access. Google says you can find all current users and pending invites on that page. An owner can remove a manager from the same page by selecting the user, then Remove person. Google notes that a removed user's replies to reviews, posts, comments, and other actions stay on the Business Profile.

The words

What does GBP stand for in business?

In local search, GBP stands for Google Business Profile. Google defines Business Profile as a tool that lets you create and manage business listings across Google Search and Google Maps, helping nearby customers discover your business. GBP management is the ongoing work of keeping that listing accurate and active. A GBP management service is that work, done for the owner by a provider for a fee.

What is GMB called now?

GMB, short for Google My Business, is now called Google Business Profile. Google's own definition of Business Profile says it was formerly known as Google My Business. So GMB management, GBP management, and Google Business Profile management all describe the same work.
