How a business qualifies
Every business evaluated through the GBPcentral free audit tool is automatically checked against the program criteria. If all thresholds are met, the business enters an internal review queue. A GBPcentral administrator reviews the qualifying candidate, spot-checks the review pattern and business status, and either approves issuance of the award or rejects the candidate with a recorded reason.
Industry-aware review thresholds
Review count thresholds are category-aware. A law firm with 30 reviews may qualify; a restaurant at the same count does not. The thresholds are calibrated against publicly observed distributions of review counts per primary business type.
| Category | Gold threshold | Platinum threshold |
|---|---|---|
| Restaurants & Food | 100+ reviews | 300+ reviews |
| Dental Practices | 40+ reviews | 100+ reviews |
| Healthcare | 40+ reviews | 100+ reviews |
| Legal Services | 25+ reviews | 75+ reviews |
| Professional Services | 50+ reviews | 150+ reviews |
| Home Services | 50+ reviews | 150+ reviews |
| Retail | 50+ reviews | 150+ reviews |
| Hotels & Hospitality | 200+ reviews | 500+ reviews |
| Auto Services | 50+ reviews | 150+ reviews |

Scoring categories
The overall audit score is a weighted sum of nine categories. A business may score lower in an individual category and still qualify overall. The weights listed below are the same values the scoring engine applies, and they always add up to 100.
| Category | What it measures | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Profile Completeness | Scores whether the profile has a complete name, address, phone, website, hours, and business status set on Google. | 19% |
| Category Optimization | Checks that the primary category is specific rather than generic, and that the business has set relevant secondary categories. | 17% |
| Review Volume | Compares the total number of Google reviews against the typical review volume for the business category. | 17% |
| Review Rating | Scores the average star rating of reviews on the business's Google listing. | 12% |
| Website & Online Presence | Looks at the linked website for HTTPS, load time, mobile responsiveness, matching contact information, and local-business structured data. | 10% |
| Review Sentiment & Quality | Reads the text of recent reviews for positive and negative themes and factors in how recent and detailed the reviews are. | 8% |
| Attributes & Services | Counts the business attributes set on the profile, including payment options, accessibility, parking, and service features relevant to the category. | 7% |
| Business Hours Optimization | Checks that hours are set for all seven days and that secondary hours for holidays or special schedules are also set. | 6% |
| Photos & Visual Content | Counts the photos that appear on the business profile. | 4% |
| Total | 100% | |
Year-bounded awards
Every award is bounded to its calendar year of issuance. The 2026 GBPcentral Excellence Award expires on December 31, 2026. Award holders may re-qualify the following year by running a fresh audit; qualification is reassessed each year against then-current Google Business Profile data.
Revocation
An award may be revoked if GBPcentral identifies evidence of review manipulation, if the business is formally sanctioned by a regulator in a manner that materially contradicts the award, if the business closes, or upon the business's own request. Revocation is reflected immediately on the public registry page; printed certificates in circulation cannot be recalled, but every QR code on a printed certificate resolves to the public page showing current status.
Opt-out
A business may request removal from the public registry at any time, for any reason, at no cost. Visit certified/opt-out to submit a request.
To protect businesses from unauthorised removal by competitors or by people without a relationship to the business, the form asks the submitter to confirm their authorisation through one of three verification paths:
- Sign in with Google. The fastest option for businesses whose owner or marketing manager is also a manager on the Google Business Profile listing. We read the manager list to confirm the relationship and discard the access token immediately afterwards; we never make changes on the Google profile and we never store the access token.
- One-time code to a business-domain email. Available when the business has its own website domain. We send a 6-digit verification code to the email address you specify; entering the code on the next page confirms you control mail at that domain.
- Submit for review. If neither self-service path applies, write a short note explaining your relationship to the business; a GBPcentral administrator reviews the request and responds by email, typically within 72 hours.
Once authorisation is confirmed, the certificate enters a 7-day pending-removal hold during which the public page shows a removal notice and a separate authorised representative can rescind the request via a single-use link delivered by email. After 7 days the certificate is permanently revoked.
Terms of use
Every certificate PDF, QR code, and public registry page we produce is intended to be visible, shareable, and durable. These terms describe what is welcome and what is not.
Permitted uses
- Display of the certificate PDF by the recognized business (storefront, office, wall, menu, website, email signature)
- Printing, framing, laminating, or otherwise preparing the certificate for physical display
- Reference in the recognized business's own marketing, website copy, press releases, or customer communications
- Sharing the canonical public URL through any channel, including social media, email, or printed materials
- Embedding the QR code on printed materials, provided the code resolves to the unmodified canonical URL
Not permitted
- Unauthorized third-party redistribution of the certificate PDF that implies involvement of any business other than the recognized recipient
- Modification of any certificate field, including business name, score, rating, review count, tier, award date, expiration, serial number, QR code, or canonical verification URL
- Removal of the verification URL or QR code from any reproduction of the certificate
- Use of certificate imagery in a manner that implies endorsement or affiliation with Google LLC
- Automated bulk download of certificate artifacts without prior written consent from GBPcentral
- Use of certificate imagery or registry content to train machine learning models without prior written consent from GBPcentral
Copyright and reporting
The certificate template, the public registry page design, the OG share image, the QR code design, and the program name are owned by Stackvate Inc., the operator of GBPcentral. The license to display and reproduce a certificate is granted only to the Recipient and only for the unmodified certificate, as set out in our Terms of Service. The methodology sets the rules of conduct; the enforcement levers are copyright, trademark, and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512).
Suspected misuse, including unauthorized redistribution of the certificate PDF, modification of any certificate field, removal of the verification URL or QR code, and use that implies Google affiliation, may be reported through our contact page. Confirmed violations may result in DMCA takedown of the infringing material, revocation of the underlying certificate if the Recipient is found to be responsible, and other legal action where warranted. GBPcentral retains discretion over enforcement actions.
Promise of free participation
Participation in the GBPcentral Excellence Award is and will remain free of charge to the recognized business. We will never ask a Recipient to pay any fee to be evaluated, to be listed in the public registry, to receive a digital certificate, or to receive an optional printed copy. No purchase is required, no entry fee applies, and no payment will be solicited at any stage of the program. If you receive any communication that appears to come from GBPcentral and asks for payment in connection with this Award, please report it to us through our contact page so we can investigate.
