Upcoming WordPress 3 Release and Features

WordPress 3.0 is suppose to make a big impact among web designers as well as bloggers. So, what features are being presented in WordPress 3.0?

It has a multi-user feature, which means WordPress 3.0 has combined their standard format with their own multi-user interface. This will allow for more than one blog to be used from the same installation. This can prove to be useful if a webmaster would like to run numerous sub-domains and want to utilize them from one place. In the past, one would have to log into each account separately, upload plug-ins one at a time, and configure each of the settings which can prove to be a hindrance in time management. With the introduction of WordPress 3.0, this task was made to be quite efficient.

The default theme has changed as well and inspires professionalism to the blog. The previous plain blue theme was not all that impressive nor eye catching. The 2010 theme commands professionalism and with a few clicks of the mouse in the administrative area, the theme of the header can be manipulated with ease.

There is also a custom background for the themes that are installed in the WordPress system. You would need to add the code “add_custom_background();” to the theme’s function.php file. This will cause the “Background” option in the WordPress administration “Appearance” tab. This will also allow you to upload your background image and be able to provide favorable placement of the image to your needs.

Custom post types are also another great feature to WordPress 3.0. This enhances the WordPress content management system and allows for different types of posts you can provide on the WordPress 3.0 blog. Such post types include such formats as Portfolio, Products, Reviews, and other features as well.

Then, there is also the navigation menu, this will allow for different menu options including Categories, Pages, External, and Internal links. There’s also widget support in case there needs to be a side widget for menu items. This feature will also allow for reordering the menu options. Sub-menus will also be put into place as well as hiding specific categories and pages, too.

Just like category templates, WordPress 3.0 also brings to the table author based templates as well with the “author-chef.php” file which have similar functionality. Now, a specific author assigned to the blog will now have a signature specific way of identifying him or her by marking the corresponding entry.

There’s also the ability to have a username with the WordPress 3.0 installation. This is for security purposes, because in the last version of WordPress, the default user was “admin” and could easily be guessed by hackers attempting to make their way into the WordPress system.
