Steps To Troubleshoot WordPress Install Problems

Fresh Manual Install

Make sure you upload contents of wordpress folder  in root public_html or httpdocs if you installing in root or if you installing in folder then upload wordpress folder as is in your  root and you can rename the folder to your liking.

If you are installing WordPress manually for first time and you get a 500 server error or blank white page then you will need to check the permissions of your root folder as in most linux cpanel server public_html or httpdocs needs to be 750.

Next check if all wordpress folders are 755 and wp- files are 644.

If you still have problem opening your install program then  Internal server errors are usually described in more detail in the server error log. If you have access to your server error log, generate the error again, note the date and time, then immediately check your server error log for any errors that occurred during that time period. If you don’t have access to your server error log, ask your hosting provider to look for you.

Once you know the file that is causing the problem you can replace the file or folder with a same file from your wordpress download and then try install program.

If you edited wp-config.php prior to upload of files and folders  delete the file and keep wp-config-sample.php file and let the install program walk you through creating the wp-config.php file. Make sure have your database name,database username,password and DB_host handy and copied. (In Cpanel the names are prefixed cpanelusername_)
Some host use a some sort of url instead of default localhost for DB_Host so check with your host if you are not sure what to use.

  • Without sounding gauche, all you experts write in the “it’s so easy” refrain. but for us newbies it is so painful stumbling along an unmarked path!
    As shown above I have created a blog using wordpress 3.1.1
    However I am continually in minefield, so I decided to go back to basics, learn the language!
    Hence I have TRied to install a local hosted WORDPRESS. 3 days now and I still cannot achieve it

  • I have articles about using a wamp or easyphp on this website that will show you how to install wordpress locally and then once you have installed I have video tutorial that will teach you how to use wordpress admin panel.
    You need to take baby steps and follow instructions on videos and articles as I have tried to make it as easy as can for newbies.

  • Looks like when install this plugin wp_interlinker the plugin has not created the tables required for the plug in to work.

    Check your plugin in Settings in admin panel or deactivate the plugin and see if you still get the error.

  • Delete wp-includes and replace with one from fresh download may be files got corrupted during transfer

  • I’ve done it for the fourth time already but still the same happens to my website. I guess my copy of WordPress is courrupted. Where can I possibly download a secure WordPress 3.1.2? And, can I use the wp-includes of the new copy as replacement for the old one or do I have to replace all (I mean the wp-admin, root directory files, etc.) with the new copy?

  • You can download from http;//wordpress.org and yes see if you can replace all files and folders from the download.

  • By the way, I got an error message after uploading the wp-include as well as the wp-admin files. The error message goes somewhat saying that uploading such files is restricted and then I am reverted to logging in the CPanel again. But, when I check the folder, it is already uploaded.
    What can I do about this?

  • I tried upgrading my wordpress site after replacing it with the newer version. But whenever, i hit http://forward.com.ph/wp-admin/upgrade.php, I am ask of username and password. I don’t know which username and password is it referring to.
    Then, after several attempts, I get this on my webpage:
    Unauthorized
    Access is denied due to invalid credentials.
    ——————————————————————————–
    Web Server at forward.com.ph

    Should I use my wordpress admin account in logging in or my Plesk Pannel credentials to login?
    But, I already tried both and its still the same.

  • If you getting error while uploading then there is problem on server you will need to check with your host as you should not get any error while uploading may be that is corrupting the files.

  • Hoping this site can help my consistent inability to install…..will persistance prevail?

    I get this error after a new install of 3.1.2 to free host AwardSpace.com. Please advise.

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_header() in /srv/disk2/708113/www/BlahBlah.co/index.php on line 1

  • To log in wordpress admin panel you use the user name and password you used when installing wordpress and to log in ftp or your server you use user name and password your host provided.

  • Since you using free host there must some thing in root that stops index.php to open check your index.php file in root and see you do not have blank space before <?php

  • Please I have a situation here, after installing wordpress using cpanel/Softaculous, and I move ahead to type the domain name on address bar, all I can see is
    Index of /

    cgi-bin/
    images/
    postinfo.html

    the domain is http://www.tftnigeria.com
    please what does that mean? and how can I move to my Blog? please help

  • Your website opened fine for me check if you are in cache press Ctrl +F5
