There are myriads of ways that could be applied to secure your WordPress web blog. To secure your WordPress from the hackers, you need to follow certain steps as discussed in this article.
Keeping WordPress Installation Current:
It is advisable for all the WordPress users to upgrade the WordPress software on time. This can be time consuming and annoying, but it helps you to secure your WordPress blog as such upgrades also include security updates as well. The most hacking susceptible blogs are the ones with old software of WordPress. For those with multiple blogs should check carefully to keep up with all new updates to secure their WordPress. By keeping your blog up-to-date, hackers won’t get a chance to find the way to hack the CMS as it is difficult to crack any vulnerability and flaws of the new software. Do Backup:
All the webmasters and bloggers should consider backing up their installation regularly. It is very important to do backup in a regular interval as you just can’t rely on the hosting company to backup your web blog. Also, by doing backup, you will be able to protect your WordPress from getting hacked.
Change Your Prefix when Installing:
Always change default wp_ prefix in database if you install manually when creating a wp-config.php file in install program. If you us one the one click install programs host provides you will have wp_ as prefix and I would recommend to go in database and change the prefix on each table and change the same in wp-config.php file.
Encrypting your login:
Hackers always try to find a way to trap the login information, no matter how hard and complicated your ID and password is. In case you are using any public Wi-Fi for logging in, then it is much easier for the hackers to sniff out your login credentials. Hence, it is important for you to ensure that your login is encrypted, whenever you are accessing your WordPress blog in any public place. As the CMS does not use any sort of encrypted logins, you can make use of the Chap Secure Login plugin tool to secure your password.
Avoid unofficial plugins:
WordPress bloggers should consider avoiding any unofficial plugins that are not listed in the official WordPress directory. This is because all official plugins are scanned for virus and have been certified as virus-free. So by using only the official plugins, your WordPress blog will be free from some virus and bugs. This will in turn increase your WordPress security.
Avoid any WordPress footprints:
Hackers always search for blogs with common WordPress footprints such as the “Powered by WordPress” tag or the “wp-login” extensions. So by avoiding such footprints, your blog will hide under the radar and it will be difficult for the hackers to locate your WordPress blog.
