Once you have installed your WordPress and started blogging is essential that you follow the steps so that your blog posts are optimized and search engines can find your posts and index your posts.
Permalinks
In WordPress there is this feature that lets you have pretty URL
The first thing to change is your permalink structure. In WordPress 3.0, you’ll find this page under Settings -> Permalinks. The default permalink is ?p=, but I prefer to use to post-name For this option, select custom structure and enter this /%postname%/
in the box and save.
This rewrites the code in .htaccess file and if your .htaccess file not writable will give you the code for .htaccess file that you need to enter in the file.
Optimize Title
You need brainstorm and write a good keyword rich title with keywords people are searching for and for that you need to research using the keyword tools that Google provides.
The point to follow is that you use targeted keywords at beginning of title and make it so that title is 70 characters as Google may cut of the title if is too long. You also need to make so that your title is more likely clicked on for what person is searching for.
Optimize Descriptions
Write a good description about your blog post is about,use the target keyword phrase and write it so that person reading the description is most likely to click on the title and make sure that your blog post gives the searcher information what he was searching for, may be the searcher will bookmark or subscribe to your rss feed and share your blog post in social network.
Another neat feature is that you can use it to optimize the more text, so if you use a more tag on the front page, you can replace the default “Read more” link with something meaningful for every post. It’s small things like this make your WordPress SEO the best.
Plugins
There are this two plugins that you need to install that will help you for your seo.
SEO Ultimate this plugin has lots of features and most important is Title and description you can add them here if you did not enter them if you already have blogs posted and have not entered your description when writing the blog post.
Google XML Sitemaps plugin. In Settings, click XML-Sitemap, then click the top link ‘Click here’ to build it for the first time you can select what you want in xml file that will be created and submitted when you update your blog.
These are main steps for a beginner and then there are lots of other steps as SEO is complex and will try to cover them on this website.
